Chaiten MODIS 5/31
If you needed any evidence that Chaiten is still erupting quite vigorously, just check out the MODIS image taken on 5/31 (above). The eruptive column is still delivering ash across southern Chile, over the Andes and into Argentina. This eruption just keeps on impressing me with its duration and magnitude – this is one for the ages (well, human ages).

Well, first off, I am no expert on the effect of ash on humans, other than it is definitely not a good thing to breathe it in. I’m not quite sure where you mean by “Aretnina” (anybody else help out here?), but I’d expect your son would have to be pretty close (100 km maybe?) from the volcano to suffer any rapidly ill effects. However, that being, you should always check with a medical professional about such concerns!

    Thank you so much !

Quote of the week

“It’s not far-fetched that almost everywhere in the world where you have volcanoes you have mythologies or new gods being created.”
